Welcome from David Carroll Executive Director Albany Institute of History & Art
Welcome to the 38th annual Antiquarian Book and Ephemera Fair. We are very excited to once again host this event and enable prestigious booksellers from the United States and Canada to showcase their varied inventory and connect with those of the capital region who are passionate about books and history.
As one of the oldest museums in the country, the Albany Institute of History & Art is intimately familiar with the crucial role that books and ephemera have played, and continue to play, in documenting the distinctive history of our extraordinary region.
Our research library contains more than a million items, including extensive collections of primary source material in addition to more than 14,000 history and art reference volumes, and 125 periodicals and newsletters. Materials in the library complement and enhance the curatorial department’s collections of fine arts, decorative arts, and history artifacts. The library is open Thursdays from 1 PM to 4:30 PM, and we welcome researchers by appointment.
Currently on view at The Albany Institute is American Impressions: Paintings from the Florence Griswold Museum, and the Eternal Return | Stephanie Rose Portraits. I hope you take a moment to view these wonderful exhibitions.
One of our greatest achievements this year is the launch of our new website at www.albanyinstitute.org. Our new site includes over 1,000 images of our permanent collection, a teacher resource center, and up-to-date calendars and public information that will allow us to fulfill our mission worldwide, and save paper, postage, and time.
Thank you for helping to support the Albany Institute of History & Art and for keeping the passion for books alive and well in the Capital Region.
